Having listened to the government and Ofcoms draft proposals, I have to laugh. On one hand the UK’s average broadband connection is 3.6 Mbps and on the other 2Mbps is guaranteed to ALL by 2012.
Most other countries of the EU are setting their sights on at least 20Mbps, why is the UK not wanting to take this next natural step.
The North Wales coast already has a fibre optic ‘backbone’ to service Bangor University and the CCTV monitoring along the A55. It really should be a straightforward business case to allow local ‘points of presence’ at strategic locations such as Llandudno Junction (watch this space with the Assembly on the way), Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conwy.
Living and working in North Wales is not only great for the body and soul (not to mention excellent for young families) so c’mon National Assembly and Conwy County Council; lets all get around the table with the infrastructure providers (BT) to find out how a high speed link could REALLY benefit tourism and associated trades in our local area.
